Dragoş Gh. Năstăsoiu graduated from the National University of Arts in Bucharest (BA in History and Theory of Art, 2008) and received his MA (2009) and PhD (2018) in History and Medieval Studies from the Central European University in Budapest/Vienna.

He was a Research Fellow at the Centre for Medieval Studies of the National Research University “Higher School of Economics” in Moscow (2018-2021) and has held various research fellowships in the past from: New Europe College – Institute for Advanced Study in Bucharest (2022/23), Art History Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (2021/22), Romanian Cultural Institute in Bucharest (2016), American Research Center in Sofia (2014/5), Sts Cyril and Methodius University in Veliko Tarnovo (2013/4), or Trnava University in Trnava (2013). He was a CEMS Teaching Fellow at the Art History Department of Ivane Javakhishvili State University in Tbilisi (2012), and has taught courses on a variety of topics ranging from Protection of Cultural Heritage (Art Conservation Support in Bucharest, 2023), Academic Career Development, Academic Writing, and Cults of Medieval Royal Saints (HSE Moscow 2018/21), Style Analysis (IJSU Tbilisi 2012), and Romanian Medieval and Modern Art (UNArte Bucharest 2009/10).

He is the author of Gothic Art in Romania (NOI Media Print, Bucharest, 2010) and co-author of Mittelalterliche Denkmäler im Tal der Großen Kokel (ACS, Bucharest, 2022, translation of the 2018 Romanian edition).

His research interests include: medieval wall painting in the former Kingdom of Hungary and Central Europe; medieval political propaganda through the cult of saints and religious art; medieval pilgrimage; construction of female gender during the Middle Ages; and cross-cultural artistic transfers between Byzantium and the West.
