Ивелина Машева е доктор по история и главен асистент в секция „Нова българска история“ на Института за исторически изследвания към Българската академия на науките. Дисертационният ѝ труд, защитен през 2015 г. в Софийски университет „Св. Климент Охридски“, е посветен на османските реформи в областта на търговското право и отражението им върху дейността на българските търговци. Между 2020 и 2026 г. Машева е част от проекта ZARAH: Women’s labour activism in Eastern Europe and transnationally, from the age of empires to the late 20th century (ERC Grant No. 833691 – ZARAH), където изследва отношенията между жените и профсъюзите в България и на международно ниво от края на XIX до края на XX век. Научните ѝ интереси са в областта на историята на правото, историята на жените и историята на труда в България и Югоизточна Европа.
