Dr. Nadezhda Alexandrova is an assistant-professor at the Faculty of
Slavic Studies at Sofia University „St. Kliment Ohridski“, Bulgaria. Her
interests are focused on the Ottoman literature and culture of the late
18th and the 19th c., on gender history and on history of emotions. She
has two MA degrees in Bulgarian Literature from Sofia University, and
in Gender Studies from the Central European University in Budapest. She
received her PHD in 2010 from the Bulgarian Academy of Science on ‘the
woman question’ in the Bulgarian periodicals and fiction from the 19th
c. Dr. Alexandrova was enrolled at the school for Transregional Center
for Democratic Studies at New School University and more recently she
was a TÜBİTAK fellow at the Department of History at Boğaziçi
Üniversitesi, Istanbul. Currently she is a board member of the
Bulgarian Association of University Women and The Bulgarian Society for
Eighteenth-Century Studies. Dr. Alexandrova is also a member of the
editorial board of two publishing series – „Teaching with Gender series“
and „Women Writers in History“ by Brill. She is an author of two
monographs and has published a number of articles in Bulgarian, English,
French and Turkish.
