Discussion series “Bulgaria after Chernobyl”: Chronicles about an Inconvenient Truth. Bulgaria after the Chernobyl Accident

4 March @ 16:30 - 18:00

A regular discussion series on the topic “Bulgaria after Chernobyl” is set to start in Janury 2025. The idea of this seminar is to publicise the latest discoveries made by our team of researchers, whose goal it is to shed light on the “management” and consequences of the Chernobyl disaster in Bulgaria.

The seminar is co-organised by the Centre for Advanced Study Sofia (https://cas.bg/en/) and the Institute for Studies of the Recent Past (https://minaloto.bg/gb/).

The third seminar will take place on 4 March 2025, Tuesday, at 16:30 at the Centre for Advanced Study Sofia.

Atanas Krastanov will present the documentary “Chronicles about an Inconvenient Truth. Bulgaria after the Chernobyl Accident.”

The film examines the consequences of the Chernobyl accident for Bulgaria. Through authentic testimonies, archival footage and expert analysis, it recreates the events related to the spread of radiation over the country, as well as the reaction of institutions and society. Revealing long-suppressed truths, the production gives voice to the scientists, journalists and ordinary people affected by the worst nuclear accident in history and its impact in modern times.
