We would like to invite you to the upcoming lecture, part of the seminar “Economic and Social History of Bulgaria: The Future through the Past Culture.” The discusssion series continues with a lecture by Dr Veselin Goranchev on the topic of “Business Relations between the Trading Company “Hadzhi Mincho h. Tsachev and company” and the Tapchileshtov Brothers.” The event will take place at the Centre for Advanced Study Sofia on Tuesday, 31 March 2026, at 17:00.

Abstract: In its main part, the presentation on the topic is based on information extracted from archival documents, most of which are prepared in Greek. The earliest of them are from 1848. The information they contain gives reason to assume that the beginning of the business relations between the company “Hadzhi Mincho h. Tsachev and company” and the Tapchileshtov brothers was established at least in 1847. Contacts between the same business entities continued until the spring of 1855. The exchange of goods between the company “Hadzhi Mincho h. Tsachev” and the Tapchileshtov brothers was bilateral. It includes a number of raw materials and goods: metals (mainly copper), skins, raw silk, animal fats, caviar, coffee, etc. The Tapchileshtov brothers (mainly Hr. Tapchileshtov) provided serious assistance to Hadzhi Mincho h. Tsachev (respectively of the company “Hadji Mincho h. Tsachev”) in the process of buying up state revenue sources.
