Discussion Series “Economic and Social History”: Harold Moulton and Leo Pasvolsky on Bulgaria and European Economic Problems After World War I

We would like to invite you to the upcoming lecture, part of the seminar “Economic and Social History of Bulgaria: The Future through the Past Culture.” The discusssion series continues with a lecture by Dr Mihail Raev on the topic of “Harold Moulton and Leo Pasvolsky on Bulgaria and European Economic Problems After World War I.” The event will take place at the Centre for Advanced Study Sofia on Tuesday, 21 April 2026, at 17:00.

Abstract: This report provides an overview of the ideas of Harold Moulton and Leo Pasvolsky regarding the economic challenges faced by both the victorious and defeated European nations following World War I. Moulton and Pasvolsky were among the founders of the Institute of Economics, established by philanthropist Robert Brookings with the assistance of the Carnegie Foundation in 1922. Moulton was a professor at the University of Chicago, while Pasvolsky had a rather interesting academic and journalistic career before joining the Institute, which would later become the Brookings Institution we know today.
