Prof. Stefan Troebst

Stefan Troebst is a historian and Slavicist and since 1999 he is Professor of East European Cultural History at Leipzig University, as well as co-director of the University's Global and European Studies Institute and deputy director of the Leipzig Centre for the History and Culture of East-Central Europe (GWZO). He studied in Tübingen and at the Free University of Berlin (then West Germany), Sofia (Bulgaria), Leningrad (today St. Petersburg, then Soviet Union, today Russian Federation), Skopje (then Yugoslavia, today Macedonia), Bloomington, IN (USA), and holds a Ph. D. degree in Russian and East European History and Slavic Studies by the Free University of Berlin where he also completed his habilitation. He is a foreign member of the Societas Scientiarum Fennica, an Associate Fellow of the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP). His recent publications include "Zwischen Arktis, Adria und Armenien. Das östliche Europa und seine Ränder (Köln, Wien, Weimar: Böhlau, 2017), and "West-östliche Europastudien.
