Iliya Iliev

Bulgaria

Iliya Iliev is an Associate Professor of Ethnology. He got his M.A. in Anthropology from the EHESS (École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales) and has Ph.D. from Sofia University (1999). He was a visiting researcher at IWM (The Institute for Human Sciences, Vienna, 2000 and 2014) and Harvard (2011). His main publications focus on the history of Bulgarian ethnology (Community Builders and Professional Strangers: Dialogues between Bulgarian and Foreign Anthropologists, Sofia University, 2nd edition 2019), social history of communism and everyday life in postsocialist Bulgaria. His current research interests are in social history of ageing and old age in Bulgaria.
