Mariana Malinova

Mariana Malinova is an associate professor in Arabic and Islamic Studies and Head of the Department of Mediterranean and Eastern Studies, New Bulgarian University, Editor in Chief of the academic Journal Orientalia; Member of the editorial board of the Millennium Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences and member of Union Européenne des Arabisants et Islamisants (UEAI). Her research interests lie in the field of intellectual and cultural history of Islam, history of translation in the Arab world and political theology of Islam.

Her resent publications include the monographs Ibn al-ʽArabī’s ‘Interpreter of Desires: Symbols and Meaning (Sofia, Gutenberg 2022. in Bulgarian); History of the translation movement in the Abbasid Caliphate (8-10th century) (Sofia, Gutenberg 2012. in Bulgarian) and the articles “Is Islamic Modernity Possible? The Concept of Abdurrahman Taha’s “Exploratory Translation”. In: Arabic Literature and the Qur’an.
