Prof. Momchil Metodiev, Dr. habil., is Head of the History Department in New Bulgarian University, Director of the Institute for Studies of the Recent Past in Sofia, Editor in Chief of the Christianity and Culture magazine, and Academic advisor to the Sofia Platform organization. He is also a founder and first Editor in Chief of the new academic journal Acta Nova Humanistica.

His research interests are related with the history of the communist regime in Bulgaria, with a particular focus on the communist State Security, Bulgarian Orthodox church and interdenominational dialogue in that period. He is author of the monographs Metropolitan Andrey of New York. Biography, Memoirs, Diaries (Sofia, Riva, 2017); State Security – Advantage by inheritance. Professional Biographies of the Senior Officers. (2016, with Maria Dermendjieva), Between Faith and Compromise.
