Pauli Heikkilä

Pauli Heikkilä completed his doctoral thesis on national discussions about European unification in both Finland and Estonia. After the doctoral defense, he moved to study the Baltic diaspora during the Cold War. His latest monograph, ”Estonia as a Captive Nation” (Brill 2022) dealt with Estonian contribution to the Assembly of Captive European Nations but also their political networks and organizations in general. He has worked in several Baltic universities, for example at the University of Tartu and Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas. Additionally, he has been a Fulbright Scholar at Stanford University and the University of Minnesota. Most recently, he has published on Finnish volunteers in the Waffen SS and on the history of Finnish ski jumping.
