Prof. Viktoriya Sereda

Prof. Viktoriya Sereda is a sociologist who has been a senior research fellow at the Institute of Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine since 2020. Prior to that, she taught at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and at the Ukrainian Catholic University.

As a research fellow, she spent extended periods at the IWM Vienna, the Ukrainian Research Institute at Harvard University, the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin and the Imre Kertész Kolleg Jena.

She was a visiting lecturer at the University of Basel, and in spring 2020 she took the lead on a research project at the Prisma Ukraïna Research Network in Berlin.

Starting 2023, she will be the Head Coordinator of the VUIAS project – an initiative of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin with the goal of setting up an Institute for Advanced Study in Ukraine. Dr Sereda has either led or participated in over 30 sociological research projects on Ukrainian society and its regional dimensions. Her publications focus on questions of regional and national identity, migration, memory, and civil society.
