Results from the 2008/2009 Fellows selection under the project “Shaken Order”


CAS is pleased to announce the results from the second Fellows selection under the project “Shaken Order: Authority and Social Trust in Post-Communist Societies – Case Studies in Law”. The 2008/2009 Fellows selected by the Academic Advisory Council are as follows:

Dr Atanas Slavov (Sofia University, Bulgaria): “Challenges to Constitutional Supremacy in a New Democracy: Critical Study of Bulgaria”

Dr Daniel Smilov (Sofia University, Bulgaria): ‘The Rule of Law and the Rise of Populism: A Case Study of Post-accession Bulgaria”

Ms Marina Tzvetkova (Nuffield College, University of Oxford, UK): “Patterns of Extra-Legal Dispute Settlement in Post-Communist Bulgaria”

Dr Nina Peršak (Scientific Research Centre at the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Slovenia): “Managing Insecurities: Social Trust and Law in Transition”

Dr Todor Hristov (Sofia University, Bulgaria): “Misrepresentative Democracy. Legislative Actions Against Political Misrepresentation in Post-1989 Bulgaria.”


Additional fellowships from the Federal Ministry for Science and Research, Austria:

Dr Miladina Monova (Institute for Studies of the Recent past, Bulgaria): “The Hidden Order: Politicization of Society and Distrust in Authority in Contemporary Greece and Bulgaria.”

Dr Rumiana Stoilova (Bulgarian Academy of Science, Bulgaria): “Social Trust: Legal Aspects and Mechanisms for Obtainment of Equal Access to Educational Opportunities. Germany and Bulgaria in Comparison.”

Additional fellowship from the Trust for Civil Society in Central and Eastern Europe:

Dr Michal Bobek (European University Institute, Department of Law, Florence): “The Authority of the Beginning and the Trust in the End; the Transformation of Legal Education and Supreme Jurisdictions in Post-Communist Societies.”
