It is traditionally regarded as a mix of authentic decrees issued by the baptizer of Rus&#8217;, whose originals have not been preserved. Accordingly, scholars focused on reconstructing the original text from which its various versions later emerged. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">However, my present project proposes<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> a <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">different <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">set of<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> research questions and approaches.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> First and foremost, I suggest examining the <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Church Statute<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> as a text that has no direct connection to the actual history of Prince Volodymyr. Instead, I <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">suggest<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> considering this text within the framework of the history of ideas and Prince Volodymyr&#8217;s representations that circulated during the first centuries after the dissolution of princely Rus&#8217; in the mid-13th century. At the same time, the text reflects intellectual engagement with Byzantine canonical law collections (<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Nomocanon<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">), an authoritative edition, which arrived in Rus&#8217; from Bulgaria in 1262. These issues are best explored by studying the oldest manuscripts containing the <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Church Statute<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> and employing the methods of critical textual analysis.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Another aspect of the research concerns cultural transfer and the peculiarities of historical writing throughout the post-Mongol Rus&#8217; territories.
